Centrifugal Pump Selection

The following table contains information on our stock of used Centrifugal Pumps. Our maintenance shop has considerable experience rebuilding pumps and can ‘create’ the correct model pump to suit your application. The table shows what model pumps we can create, rather than being indicative of the current configuration of each pump in stock. Therefore, the pricing of each pump varies widely based on whether or not we have all the components used or if a new motor/shaft/etc. may have to be purchased to complete the pump. Therefore, instead of listing exact prices, we have represented the pump’s "value" with a rating from 1 to 4 $’s. Note that a used $$$ pump will actually cost less than a new $$ pump, but this system helps provide a simple measure of the comparative price of each.

1) Determine Parameters: Determine your required flowrate (gpm) and required discharge pressure (ft of head). If you are unsure of the discharge pressure, please don’t guess ... just call us. Tell us what you’re trying to accomplish with the pump and we will help estimate the needed head - it’s what we do.

2) Find Proper Pump Speed: Find the intersection of the flow and pressure on both the appropriate low speed (1750 RPM) or high speed (3500 RPM) pump curve. Some applications will appear on both, but in most cases, the pump speed will not affect the product, so the smaller, high-speed pump is more economical.

3) Find Proper Pump Size: Use the chart to find what basic pump "size" is required for your application. These charts are very rough, but should provide a good starting point.

4) Estimate Proper Flow Range: Find where your design point (the intersection of the flow and the pressure) falls within the selected size region. The left side is "low" flow and the right side is "high" flow.

5) Select Pumps: Use the chart below to determine if we have any pumps that suit your needs. We’ll still need to determine the proper horsepower, but this process will at least tell you if we have anything in the right range.

Pump models/sizes shown on list, but not shown in stock are models that commonly come in and out of stock. Please call to verify stock situation.

* Pump models shown with an asterisk are obsolete. We usually only offer these pumps as replacements or parts sources for existing pumps.

We also have a large stock of new pumps from Fristam, Alfa-Laval, SPI, Sine, Waukesha, and Tri-Clover that are not necessarily shown on this list. Please call or e-mail applications@dairyeng.com for details.
